streets are asleep
yet a light
flickers
in town’s only church
while souls rest
restless pastor
kneels
communing
and crying
confessing
to cleanse
when souls come
today
to commune
to confess
to cleanse
he knows
he can’t receive
their light
as his
flickers
from sin
the night before
